It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Elsa Leonardo who peacefully left us at the age of 100 and 2 ½ months. Our mother was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who was known for her love to God and people.
She was born and raised in Guatemala and lived a large part of her adult life in Chicago. Mom was a very compassionate person and cared deeply for the needs of others. It was natural for her to cook large meals to feed the poor in Guatemala. She was a devoted Christian and preached the Gospel to anyone with whom she came in contact with. Often going door to door and to public seatings preaching the Gospel. Serving in the church was one of her passions and held positions as an Elder, women group President, Treasurer and more.
She loved her 5 children and grandchildren and instilled on all of them the love for God. Her legacy will move on to family generations to come.
She is survived by her 5 children Loty (Carlota), Elsa, Thelma, Rosa and Leonel as well as 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Carlos Leonardo Asturias (2009) and her 5 siblings.
Family private viewing will be on Wednesday July 23. She will be laid to rest on Thursday, July 24 at Dundee Township East Cemetery in Dundee, Illinois.
