Richard Padrta Obituary

With deep sadness, the family of Richard Padrta announces his passing in hospice care on June 8, 2025. Rich was born on February 8, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, to Mildred (Bilek) Eldred and Joseph Vilimek. He was later adopted and lovingly raised by James Padrta and Marie (Bocek).

Rich was married to Barbara (Stokes) for over 50 wonderful years until her passing on July 6, 2009. Together, they built a life in Carpentersville, where they lovingly raised their three daughters: Janet (the late Scott) Mocny, Susan Houtz, and Cathy (Kevin) Loomis.

Rich cherished family vacations, always bringing his camera to capture the special moments they shared. He was a proud and active supporter of his daughters’ school bands, enthusiastically participating in many of their excursions.

One of his greatest joys was being ‘POPS’ to his grandsons, Alex and Austin Houtz, who now live in the Tampa area.

Rich was a passionate athlete who competed in numerous local 5K and 10K races, as well as marathons. His dedication even led him to learn how to swim so he could take part in the Chicago Triathlon. One of his proudest accomplishments was qualifying for and completing the 1985 Boston Marathon—a milestone he cherished deeply.

In 1999, a serious car accident resulted in a severe hip injury that brought his running days to an end. Despite this setback, Rich remained active and, over the past decade, found joy in participating in walking events alongside his friends.

Rich’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who knew him and expressed their care and concern, especially during the past year as his health declined.

His ashes will be laid to rest at Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin, beside his beloved wife of over 50 years, Barbara. A private ceremony will be held by the family to honor his memory. Once again, thank you for your kindness and support.
