Obituary

Sally "Mae" Henderson (Olive) was born on March 9, 1941 to Atlean Jones (Weathersby) and Booker T. Olive in Tchula, Mississippi. She was the eldest of two children born to this union. Sally Mae was preceded in death by both parents. As a young child Sally enjoyed spending time with her grandmother, Addie B. Weathersby, who also preceded her in death.

At a very young age, Sally's parents relocated from Mississippi to Chicago, IL. Sally attended elementary school in Chicago and after graduating a hair stylist before returning to school to learn office skills. Her data entry skills led her to employment as a data entry (Keypunch) operator. She later advanced her skills and enjoyed a long career as an administrative assistant and professional organizer before deciding to retire.

When she retired, Sally enjoyed spending time with her sister Ruby in Tampa, whom she affectionately referred to as "Sis". They were fondly known as "two peas in a pod." Sally loved going to the beach, walking in the sand; watching the waves; and feeling the sun on her skin. Sally was an avid reader. She enjoyed going to the library or getting books from the mobile library, and she always had a book on her nightstand.

Sally's greatest joy was spending time with her children and grand-children. She was affectionately referred to as "GranGran" or "Granny". Her eyes gleamed when she received a telephone call, video chat or a visit from one of her grand-children.

Sally was a firm believer in Christ. Early in life, she enjoyed being a Sunday School Teacher. She also was part of a gospel group, The Spiritual Wonders that consisted of her mother and sister, Ruby. She taught her children to sing and formed "The Jones Ensemble" to continue the family's legacy of signing gospel songs in neighboring churches.

On Monday, March 28, 2022,, with her family by her side, God called his loving child home. Sally leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters; Denise R. Bursey, Ruby L. Sullivan, Linda J. Stevenson, Darlene Henderson and one son, Steven L. Henderson, Sr.; four sisters, Ruby S. Watkin's-Black in Florida, Elizabeth "Liz" Broadway of Wisconsin, Ruthie Crenshaw of Illinois and Ella Richardson Eskew of Illinois; eighteen grand-children; twenty great-grand-children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will also be dearly missed by her two closest childhood friends, Norma "Toi" Bates, Eloise Brown and all of the members of St. Michael's Prayer Band.
