It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful, loving mother, Maria Silvia Otero. Born on August 28th, 1958, in Durango, Mexico, she spent her childhood years in a vibrant community that shaped her kindness and spirit. As a teenager, she followed her father to Chicago, IL, where her journey continued.
At the age of 20, Maria became a mother, a role she embraced with love and devotion. She is survived by her children Emanuel A. Leyva, Crystal Otero, and Michael A. Otero. Sadly, she faced the loss of her middle son, Joseph U. Linares, who passed on August 15th, 2024. Maria was not only an extraordinary mother; she was also a devoted grandmother who cherished each moment with her beloved grandchildren: Emanuel A. Leyva Jr., Elias A. Leyva, Aliyah M. Edwards, Elijah A. Leyva, and Emilia A. Leyva.
Maria dedicated much of her life to working at Tempo Café, tirelessly providing for her family and ensuring they had everything they needed. We are eternally grateful for the countless sacrifices she made for us and will always remember her forgiving and loving nature. She truly was like no other.
In her faith, Maria found strength and purpose, embodying the role of both a mother and a child of God. She faced a difficult battle with breast cancer, diagnosed in 2023, and despite her incredible strength and perseverance, she sadly succumbed to the illness on November 5th, 2024.
Maria will forever be missed, as she was the pillar that held our family together. Her legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will live on in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear mother; we will carry your spirit with us always.
Visitation for Silvia will be Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Northlake Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home Friday, November 15, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. and will proceed to St. Gertrude Church, Franklin Park for her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m.
